The Government has today announced plans to ensure the future of the Feed-in Tariffs scheme to make
it more predictable. Transparency, longevity and certainty are at the heart of the new improved
schemecheme.

The Court of Appeal has upheld an earlier ruling that
government cuts to household solar subsidies were illegal.
Three Court of Appeal judges ruled that parliament did not have
the power to make such a modification “with such a retrospective effect”. The government must now
pay costs for the solar industry and has been refused permission to appeal.

Solar Certainty: DECC Confirms Future FiT Rates

After Solar Power Portal this morning reported confirmation of the new feed-in tariff
rates, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has published a ministerial statement
confirming the new feed-in tariff rates for solar photovoltaics installations completed between
December 12 and April 1, 2012. In a bid to provide certainty to the somewhat frustrated
industry, Government has set out its ‘Plan B’ feed-in tariff proposal in the event that it loses
its current court appeal.

Feed-In Tariffs Scheme: Consultation On Comprehensive Review Phase 1 On 31 October, the solar
energy industry drew a sharp intake of breath on release of the details of the cuts to PV
feed-in-tariffs. We consider the proposed changes announced in DECC’s consultation. Feed-in-Tariffs
(FIT/s) came in some 18 months ago and, since then, they have proved to be a significant driver of
investment in green energy generation. The Solar PV FIT has been laid as the kernel of that

Minister says only regret on FiT cuts is he "didnt do it earlier"

Energy Minister Greg Barker today said his only regret about introducing an early
December cut-off point for solar PV subsidy was that he “didn't do it earlier”.
But the DECC minister did reveal he was looking seriously at raising the
export payment of generating solar PV to cushion the impact of the earlier
than expected introduction of the lower Feed-in Tariff rate.
Giving evidence to a Parliamentary committee, Mr Barker said he stood by his decision to bring
forward the deadline for the Feed-in Tariff to December 12, saying he had to act to avoid
destroying the entire FiT scheme.
